Sports Medicine

Sports medicine services include lab diagnostics and recommendations to improve athletic performance and improve recovery times.

WHAT WE DO

Lab assessments include complete blood count for red and white blood cells, hemoglobin and platelets; blood based food allergy testing; and saliva based cortisol hormone testing.

Contact Dr. Proulx ND for more info on available sports performance packages for you or your team.

Info These Tests Offer

Complete Blood Count (CBC) – assessment of red and white blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets

  • Information on immune system, inflammation, anemia, dehydration, digestive enzyme status, and need for certain vitamins and minerals (ex: iron, vitamins B6 and B12, vitamin C, folic acid).

Ferritin – assessment of iron stores in the blood

  • Iron is needed by hemoglobin in red blood cells to carry oxygen to muscles and tissues. Fatigue, shortness of breath, weakness and increased recovery time are associated with low iron status and iron-deficient anemia.

Food Allergy Test (blood based) – assessment of immune reactions to specific foods

  • Food allergies are usually delayed immune responses that can take up to 72 hours to manifest.

  • Asthma, headaches, joint pain and overall health are often linked to food allergies.

Cortisol Hormone Test (salivary) – assessment of level of daily change of the stress hormone cortisol

  • Info on how the body is coping with stress (eg. heavy exercise, lifestyle, diet, anxiety). Low levels correlated to fatigue, insomnia, an inability to gain lean muscle mass, depression, and difficulties concentrating.
